The Gold Fever, Ruffino

The Gold Fever is a collection of objects and surfaces inspired by the imagery that our culture has created around gold throughout history. Gold nuggets represent a fantasy of beauty and magic. The earliest written accounts come from ancient Greece. Still, in the 19th century, a veritable "gold fever" broke out, inspiring novels, plays, and later films and TV series. The gold nugget carries an imagery of purity and transcendence; they are the physical transfiguration of a fantasy. By creating this collection, we want to bring some magic into the present day. The nuggets are covered with real liquid gold to create an illusion and trigger in the audience that sense of surprise and excitement attached to the discovery of something rare and incredibly precious, natural, yet magical.
